Of interdisciplinary origin and meaning, and organized biennially by the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC), the Conference will feature the collaboration of artists, theorists and thinkers, who with their experiences, studies and ideas will provide answers, questions, affirmations or challenges regarding our photographic present.
III CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY CONFERENCE
Photography and Reality; Mediation and Representation
La Virreina Centre de la Imatge
October 22 – 24, 2024
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Every artistic medium starts from the unfolding of reality in order to achieve its understanding. An itinerary marked by the technical uniqueness that each art form applies in its symbolic representation.
Photography, due to its need for immediate reality, faced the abyss of a new creative concept: to give meaning to visible reality, the same reality that the camera reproduced with unprecedented precision, a characteristic that diverged from the creation principle of the blank page or canvas.
The silver-based photographic process, the emergence of digital photography, and the creation of images with a photographic finish generated by AI coexist in our contemporary era through authors who employ them to conceive their work with the same aim: to transcend the visible in order to express the vicissitudes of the human condition, as well as to question the social reality that surrounds it.
In these sessions, we will address the positions that art, science, and thought adopt in their mediation with reality, in response to the new challenges posed by the 21st century.
