ISRAEL ARIÑO (Barcelona, 1974)

Since its beginnings, Israel Ariño’s work has been conceived around the act of seeing. His projects are rooted, in his own words: “in the desire for images to contain and express the invisible, that which hides behind an image, that which suggests, that which makes us dream.” Sensitive to light and matter, the artist offers a form of photography whose language serves to question, transcend, and reinvent reality.

Israel Ariño translates his exploration of territories and stories -whose sensory quality reveals a poetic nature- into numerous self-published artist books and seven monographs edited by Ediciones Anómalas.

His work is regularly exhibited and is part of prestigious collections, such as Neuflize in Paris, the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, and the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, among others.

In addition to his photographic work, he has been teaching since 2005, and since 2013, he has served as the editor of Ediciones Anómalas. In 2019, he co-founded, alongside Clara Gassull, the cultural space LaBabuch, a place for experimentation and research on education and alternative narratives.

His work is represented by Galerie VU (Paris), Box Galerie (Brussels), Tosei Gallery (Tokyo), and Espace JB (Geneva).
